This was purchased at an artifact show in Indianapolis in the mid 60’s. It shows nice age and patina.
This is a string of old glass trade beads. The string is approximately 52 inches in length containing roughly 800 beads. They are all glass of various colors and sizes. Looking at them with a loop I can see they are very irregular in shape with one side smaller on a lot of them. Small bubbles and imperfections can be seen in the clear and translucent ones.
This is a great example of a sharpened and polished bone tool.
This is a very old and rare item that is in excellent condition. It was ingeniously made of from one piece of hand carved wood that was notched and then bent into position. The wood was then tied with what I believe is sinew. Then it was covered with animal hide, possibly buffalo, that was stretched and tied around the entire stirrup. This piece shows the high skill level and beautiful craftsmanship of it’s maker. It was purchased at a relic show in central Ohio in the late 60’s.
This beautifully made discoidal was purchased at auction in the late 60’s and has been in our collection since. A piece like this is not often offered for public sale. But it is not a personal find so I want to check it’s authenticity before selling.
Now the rest of the story…The opinion was that it was a historically made piece. I am glad I didn’t let it get out the door. I guess it could still make a good paperweight.
Here is an example of an ancient unfinished project. I am sure it was on his ‘honey-do’ list. Finely pecked into shape but only started drilling the hole. It had a lot of potential. If it could only tell the story as to why it didn’t get finished. This is a great study piece.
This one shows the hand carving on the sides and has a nice hole drilled on the end for mounting on the shaft. It has an ancient crack in it but it still is very solid. It also has great patina.
This is a very thin well made and highly polished gorget. It had a couple brushes with farm equipment but survived with only minor scratches.
